Redemption in a Fallen World

Overview

When you look at the world through a biblical worldview, you see that this is a broken, fallen world. This section will examine what God is doing about this situation and how he plans to redeem a people for Himself and restore the fallen world they live in. God has also revealed a glimpse of His future plans for our world in the Bible – sometimes in plain language, sometimes in symbols and figures. Christians are naturally fascinated with the idea of knowing what the future holds and our enthusiasm for unlocking secrets sometimes leads us to create speculative interpretations of passages that have to do with eschatology (the study of the end times). The goal of the last three units is to help you approach Scripture soberly and to form an understanding of the end times that does not go beyond what Scripture teaches, and yet fully embraces the beauty of all that God promises for His people.

In this Journey Section you will:

• Consider what it means to be justified by God and adopted into his family
• Learn about how we can have the assurance of knowing we will go to heaven when we die
• Consider how God conforms us into his image and what role we have to play in that process
• Explore the biblical doctrine of glorification and what it means for us now
• Learn about the second coming of Christ and various views about how it will occur
• Consider four different views of the millennium of Revelation 20, with a particular focus on amillennialism
• Explore biblical teaching on the final judgment, the new heavens and earth, and how that informs the way we live today
